The 19th Australian Software Engineering Conference will be held in Perth, Western Australia from the 26th to the 28th of March 2008. Situated on the Indian Ocean, Perth is a large modern city boasting a vibrant software engineering community, parts of which serve Western Australia's booming resources, defence and maritime industries.
Established in 1986, ASWEC is a leading technical forum for the exchange of peer reviewed research outcomes and industry best-practice in software engineering. It attracts a wide range of participants including software engineering researchers, practitioners, and educators from across Australia, its regional neighbours, and from other international locations. The overall program will provide numerous opportunities for academic and industry participants to interact and learn from each other.
A new feature introduced for ASWEC 2008 is the addition of poster presentations. The purpose is to encourage broader participation at appropriate levels for both Research Papers and Experience Reports (formerly called Industry Experience Reports), providing a new forum for dialogue and interaction amongst conference delegates. Authors will nominate their preferred presentation format (oral vs poster) at submission time. However, the appropriate presentation format for accepted research papers and experience reports will be determined by the Program Committee on the basis of the significance, impact and quality of the reported work.
Research Papers
Authors are invited to submit papers describing original research in all areas of software engineering. Papers describing theoretical or empirical research, new techniques and tools, and in-depth case studies are all welcome. Submissions should be original and should not have been published previously or currently be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Paper submissions will be reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical quality and relevance to the field of software engineering in accordance with IEEE requirements. As in previous years, the ASWEC proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. One author from each accepted paper is required to register as a full-fee delegate and present the paper at the conference.
All submissions must be original work written in English and be prepared in IEEE format to a maximum of 10 pages, following the instructions on the conference website at:
http://www.aswec2008.curtin.edu.au/researchPapers.php.
Experience Reports
The objective of experience reports is to discuss results (both good and bad), obstacles, and lessons learned associated with applying software development practices in the "real world". Experiences from practitioners provide valuable input into future research directions and allow others to learn from successes and failures. Experience reports are an important means to share lessons learned between practitioners and to help the IT industry to improve their work practices.
We invite submissions of extended abstracts - an abstract and some additional information - that discuss lessons learned and share experiences about the benefits and limitations of software engineering approaches. Experience reports should be based on actual practice, and should cover all sides of the story - strengths and weaknesses, successes and challenges. We solicit experience reports on any and all topics relevant to software development practitioners.
All extended abstract must be in English and follow the guidelines on the conference website at:
http://www.aswec2008.curtin.edu.au/expReport.php.
One author from each accepted experience reports is required to register as a full-fee delegate and present the paper at the conference.
Tutorials
Tutorial proposals that have practical appeal to the software engineering community are sought for ASWEC 2008. Tutorials will run on the morning of the first day of the conference and the afternoon of the final day. Please submit your proposals detailing the topic, background, intended audience, presenter/s and their affiliations along with anticipated time requirements to the tutorial chair, Professor Tharam Dillon at before 26 October 2007 (extended)
